1. When choosing a color scheme for your website, choose
a pleasant color scheme that would make your website easy
to read. Choose your text and background color carefully.
Use dark text on light background and use light text on dark
background. Avoid using too much bright and luminous colors
against noisy background. It would make your website appears
unfriendly.
2. Keep the look and color scheme of your website consistent.
Try to use the same color and format throughout your website.
This makes your website appears more organized and professional.
3. Keep your site friendly with fast download times. Try to
substitute large images with a thumbnail version of the image.
Do not use fake thumbnails because it will not help to shorten
loading time. Using fake thumbnails is as good as using no
thumbnails at all. It does not improve loading time!
4. Choose an easy navigation system so that visitors can navigate
through your website very easily. Your visitors should be
able to find all of your hyperlinks clearly by using easy-to-follow
navigational paths.
5. Select your webgraphics carefully. Try to blend your webgraphics
with the theme of your website. If you are using buttons for
navigation, clearly label these buttons, so as not to mislead
new visitors.
6. Try to check for broken links. Visitors do not find broken
links appealing. Do not have too much broken links!
7. When creating a hyperlink or a link, try to make your link
stands out from the rest of the text. For example, you might
want to design it so that your link will be underlined, or
be in bold or be in a different color from the rest of the
text. This makes your links easy to spot.
8. Put contact information on your website. This will allow
visitors to email you with comments, feedbacks and suggestions.
9. Do not put too much graphics on one page. Try to separate
it into different pages. Visitors might not want to wait forever
for your page to load.
10. When designing a layout, keep in mind that functionality
and content is more important than the layout itself. Do not
put on too much emphasis on making your layout "outstanding".
The most important aspect in a website lies in its content.
