Review
: Crosswinds was one of the first
webhost company who offers unlimited webspace for its users for
free. For the first few months after Crosswinds opened, the service
was terrific. Webspace is unlimited for non-commercial websites
and 25MB for commercial websites. There was no advertisement banners
and you can choose to use either FTP or Browser to upload your
files. The FTP is always running and data transfer is fast. The
browser upload utility allows up to 24 files to be uploaded at
once. Their email service was great --- a generous 10MB of email
storage and Crosswinds also offer free email forwarding service.
So, what went wrong?
Eventually, Crosswinds is unable to handle the number of clients
that they have now. Now, their FTP is down most of the time and
their server is extremely slow. It would take forever for your
webpage to load. In addition, Crosswinds also introduced a pop-up
banner on their websites. In my opinion, the pop-up banner ads
are still tolerable. However, the worst part is that your website
will be down most of the time and there is no technical support.
There is really no apparent end in sight for their troubles.
Crosswinds is definitely not my ideal kind of web hosting company.
However, if you need a free and huge file storage, and you can
tolerate their slow server (which is often down), Crosswinds is
the perfect host for you. If you do not really need a lot of webspace
and you want your website to be viewable most of the time, I would
recommend you to find another webhost.
