Review
: Geocities is one of the earliest
free web hosting company on the internet. Geocities was acquired
by Yahoo a few years ago and now it was one of the largest free
web hosting company on the internet with millions of users. There
were reports that Geocities have become somewhat indifferent to
their users after the merger with Yahoo. However, I have been
a loyal user at Geocities before and after the merger and I find
that their service is still as good as before. In fact, I like
their new small square advertiments much better than the previous
banners.
The most tricky part of the sign-up process at Geocities is choosing
your username. With over millions over user signed up at Geocities,
it was hard to get your desired username. You would have to add
numbers and symbols most of the time. 15MB is not a very huge
space but it is enough for most web users. Geocities is suitable
for both beginners and advanced users. You could choose from a
pre-made template using the Page Wizard or you could customize
your own website using the Pagebuilder. Geocities Pagebuilder
is almost as good as the famous Homestead Sitebuilder. However,
you would have to do your web making online if you choose to use
their Pagebuilder. If you are an experienced HTML user, you can
always use FTP to upload your files. Their FTP is fast and reliable.
I would recommend Geocities for both beginner and advanced web
makers out there who do not really need a lot of webspace. Despite
the small 15MB webspace allotment, Geocities is a terrific free
webhost provider. Their server is very reliable and fast. Their
ad banner is very small and unobtrusive. New beginners could learn
how to use the Pagebuilder in just a few minutes. Their technical
support is excellent. You could be sure that your website is online
99.99% of the time.
